THE PLAINTIFFS CLAIM is for

(1) A declaration that the stipulations for the provision of

protection against and for the prevention of piracy imposed or sought to be imposed on the Plaintiffs by a létter addressed by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to Messrs. John Swire & Sons Limited and dated 18th March 1930 and by letters addressed in Hong-Kong by Commodore Hill acting for and on behalf of the Crown to the said Messrs. John Swire & Sons Limited and dated 19th and 28th March 1930 and by Mr. C.G. Ammcn M.P. Financial and Parliamentary Secretary to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty and other representatives of the Crown verbally at an interview with Mr. G.W. Swire on the 24th March 1930 are illegal and unenforceable against the Plaintiffs and void

A declaration that the Plaintiffs are under no obligation to make any of the payments to or for the use of the Crown for which the said stipulations provide

A declaration that the Plaintiffs have been and are under no obligation to make any payment to or for the use of the Crown in respect of the protection afforded by the Crown to ship- ping and the lives and property thereon against the dangers of piracy in Chinese and neighbouring waters

A declaration that in existing conditions and so long as and whenever in the view of the Crown such protection against pirates is required, the Plaintiffs are entitled to enjoy the same without making any specific payments therefor

(5) Such other declaration and relief as to the Court may seem

fit.

whose Address for Service is 40 Trinity Square, London,

E.C.3. Solicitors for the said Plaintiffs, whose registered
